James Oliver “Jimmy” Nelms, Jr., 57, of Roanoke Rapids died Sunday, January 15, 2017.

Jimmy, a native of Halifax County, was the son of the late James Oliver Nelms, Sr. and Jean Bailey Nelms. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Nelms.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Nelms and his son, James Cody Nelms, both of South Hill, VA; his sisters, Debbie N. Walls of Roanoke Rapids, and Sharon N. Oliver and her husband, Chuck, of Roanoke Rapids; brother, Wade Nelms of Newport, NC; his grandson that was so special to his heart, Acelyn; special friend, Sue Adams, of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Wade Nelms and Rev. Steve Formo officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the Funeral Home and other times at the Home Place.
